Should I? Denise, 26, investment banking

AN author and economist called Catherine Hakim has written widely on an idea called erotic capital. It says that you do better at work and in your life if you are more beautiful. She has a book on this theme to be released soon.

So your question, which initially causes something of a raised eyebrow, is also fair.

But – assuming there is something to Hakim’s main theme – I would first of all question the degree to which erotic capital should be defined by breast size. Big breasts are considered a bonus by some, yes. By others, less so. Regardless, their size is beside the point: what you should be doing in a professional environment is to look as sharp as possible. Wear good clothes, nice shoes, try to be slim and fit.

But being prepared to take to the knife for career advancement seems to me to be a grave skewing of priorities. Being attractive can help your career, perhaps. But on the list of other things that can help your career, it should be ranked fairly low. Intelligence, ambition, hard work, good ethics. Focus on these to get ahead in your career. And attractiveness – particularly breast-size – is a massive double-edged sword. It’s asking for sexual attention to get ahead: something in the same sphere as giving sexual favours to the boss for a promotion. Wouldn’t you rather be promoted because you’re really good? I would.

Dr Hakim seems to me to be playing with fire – she may be stating a truism, that beauty has a positive effect on people’s estimations of you and their desire to help you. But she’s also suggesting that in a world in which women are already relentlessly preoccupied with how they look, they should be even more stressed out about it. Yes, Hakim applies the rule to men, too – but, although they’re getting more worried about looks, they’ve got a long way to go in the skin-deep neurosis stakes. And the male ability to get ahead at work has not been a problem, to date – so being told attractiveness can help won’t carry the same stressful meaning. Set an example by showing that women of all breast sizes can thrive at work. vexed@cityam.com

Posted via email from beverlyhillsplasticsurgery’s posterous

Breast Revision Options For Previous Breast Augmentation Patients – AmericanHealthAndBeauty.com

Breast Augmentation Surgery

This is one of the better articles have read in a long while about of the things that occur in the a women’s body when she elects to have breast augmentation, it also answers some questions that not too many people think to ask… Take a minute and be sure to have a read Breast [...]

This is one of the better articles have read in a long while about of the things that occur in the a women’s body when she elects to have breast augmentation, it also answers some questions that not too many people think to ask… Take a minute and be sure to have a read

Breast Revision Options For Previous Breast Augmentation Patients

Breast Revision, a highly specialized and customized procedure, can transform previously unsatisfactory breast implant results in just a short period of time.

According to The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), breast augmentation has gone up 22% since 2000 to nearly 300,000 procedures being performed in 2010. And while many of these patients that undergo breast enhancement are quite pleased with their results, there are also patients that may not be. Breast Revision can help both patients who are not happy with their immediate results or who have had breast implants that have aged or changed in the passing years.

Model Photo

According to Denver Breast Augmentation specialist Dr. Gregory Buford, “Prior to surgery, one of the most common complications is unrecognized asymmetry in the breasts. A few years ago, a study was released looking at asymmetry and the findings suggested that a majority of women have some degree of asymmetry. In reality, in clinical practice, I actually feel that almost all women have some degree of asymmetry. This asymmetry must be identified for appropriate preoperative planning to enable the most optimal outcome.”

An experienced and seasoned plastic surgeon who has performed many breast augmentations is sensitive to the nuances and subtle difference in breasts and will adjust their augmentation accordingly to deliver the most symmetric and visually pleasing results.

A common problem that patients who have undergone previous breast enhancement have is one breast may be higher on one side. There could be a number of reasons for this and many ways to correct it, depending on why it appears to be higher.

“Whenever something is implanted into the body, whether it be a hip, joint, or breast implant,” Dr. Buford notes, “A capsule will form around the implant because it is a foreign object.” The body forms a capsule around the foreign object to protect itself from the implant for as long as it is inside the body. While the capsule is soft the majority of the times, there are cases in which the capsule will harden and distort the implant.

“The capsule can tighten down and actually shrink down to distort the implant and patients see is a superior elevation of the implant and feel a very firm breast. At this point, most people think that their implants have became hard,” says Dr. Buford, “However, implants do not become hard and they never do. It is the scar tissue around the implant, the capsule that contracts and distorts the implant, resulting in a overly firm breast.”

This can be solved by removing the implant on the effected side and replacing it with a new implant in addition to making changes to the surrounding capsule. It is recommended that an entirely new implant be used since over time, low-grade bacteria can grow on a breast implant while it is in the body which then cannot be destroyed without the removing the implant.

Another option is surgical revision to the capsule that is formed by the body. In most cases, a simple procedure can be performed so that the breast implant drops and expands to a more natural setting. “Through the initial incision, I can score or add a transverse incision to the capsule to open it up and allow the implant to drop,” states Dr. Buford.

In more complex cases of capsular contracture, Dr. Buford may remove parts of or the entire capsule and reposition the implant within the breast pocket. This is performed depending on the degree of contracture, thickness of breast tissue overlying the capsule and the ease or difficulty of removal associated with capsule revision.

The last option is switching out the type of implant. As technology improves for silicone gel implants, swapping out saline implants for silicone can quickly augment the look and feel of breasts. “9 times out of 10, that actually works very well. For the 1 time out of 10 that it doesn’t work is in patients that have very thin overlying skin or very little glandular tissue to start out with,” Dr. Buford states, “In that case, a very effective way, we’ve found, is to put a sling – an interpositonal graft that thickens the skin between the implant and the breast tissue.”

In most cases of breast revision, the procedure takes approximately an hour and most patients experience as little as 24 hours or less of downtime before they can return to normal activity. The majority of patients can control the pain with over the counter pain medication and may experience some incisional pain but no where near the pain of the original surgery.

Of course, the best way to avoid breast revision is get it done right the first time. Denver breast implants specialist Dr. Buford stresses the importance of seeing an experienced physician who specializes in breast augmentation, “It really comes down to artistry. Patients should look for a surgeon that doesn’t want to just make their breasts bigger, they should look for someone who will customize their particular breast augmentation to them, to their bodies.”

(via Instapaper)

To Your Beauty!

Dr. Alexander Sinclair

Breast Augmentation

Posted via email from beverlyhillsplasticsurgery’s posterous

This Will Be The New Way Breast Augmentation Is Done Very Soon

Breast Augmentation Surgery

I read a very interesting article in Wired Magazine a few months back about utilizing a person's own fat when it comes to breast augmentation, though fat transfer has been around a while, this is VERY different I then recorded a youtube video about it that you can find here I also just finished reading [...]

I read a very interesting article in Wired Magazine a few months back about utilizing a person's own fat when it comes to breast augmentation, though fat transfer has been around a while, this is VERY different I then recorded a youtube video about it that you can find here

I also just finished reading about a surgical institute in Minnesota now offering this type of breast augmentation surgery… It really in exciting to see this technology being accepted by my fellow doctors… ultimately it safer for the patient and results in a true win / win for everyone.

Edina, MN, April 01, 2011 –(PR.com)– Shu Cosmetic Surgery Institute, Minnesota's leading center for comprehensive cosmetic care, has launched a revolutionary procedure, RejuveFillTM stem cell enhanced natural breast augmentation, that will allow patients to increase breast size using harvested fat and stem cells or Adipose Derived Regenerative Cells (ADRC’s) while simultaneously eliminating unwanted body fat. height="280" />

Hello, I’m Dr. Alexander Sinclair, your board-certified plastic surgeon. I was recently reading this interesting article in Wired Magazine and Today, I would like to talk about some exciting developments on the horizon of plastic surgery. You might not know this, but plastic surgeons have been on the forefront of many medical changes. As a matter of fact, the specialty is all about change. Changing people and furthering new developments.

That’s sort of the piece of property that plastic surgeons own. In the 50’s, plastic surgeons were the first doctors to do kidney transplants. Right now, plastic surgery teams are working on stem cell research. What they’re finding is that stem cells occur in fatty tissue. Much more frequently that had been thought.

As a matter of fact, you may find the stem cell in every 200 cells in your adipose or fat cell area compared to one in a few thousand in blood or bone marrow. That means that that is a really right place to find stem cells.

But what does a stem cell do and what is that? We hear about it all the time. Think about this. You have over 200 different types of cell types in your body. For example, you have bat cells and you have bone cells and you have muscle cells and kidney cells. A stem cell is the type of cell that when properly stimulated can develop into any of those cell lines. That’s pretty incredible because if you think about it, one of the real problems with aging or disease or trauma is the loss of certain cells.

For example, if you have a heart attack, you’re going to lose heart cells. Well, there’s no way the body can make new heart cells unless a used to unlock that secret process and stem cells can do that. Now, the applicability here in the plastic surgery world, one of the early applicabilities is for breast reconstruction and even breast augmentation. Because if we can take fat cells and that is the stem cell and then stimulate that stem cell and program it to replicate and build a breast, we’ll be able to build breasts with your own tissue.

That’s an exciting concept and it’s being done. And it’s not just being done in the labs, but it’s being done in experimental settings around the world right now in Europe, Asia, and in the United States. There are programs underway to reconstruct breasts using a person’s own fat by stimulating stem cells. We’re not ready to do this on an everyday basis for breast augmentations, but I would say, within my lifetime it will happen.

So stay tuned. I want to do an update on this because this area is changing rapidly and there are many applications of this stem cell therapy for plastic surgery. I’m Dr. Alexander Sinclair, your board-certified plastic surgeon.

To Your Beauty,
Dr. Alexander Sinclair

For more information please visit:
<a Women who had lost their breasts due to diseases such as cancer also fell into the category, but were included in a raft of other items on the Medical Benefits Scheme. The Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons has asked the Federal Government to consider extending the tax-payer-funded benefits to flat-chested women, who suffer what is known in the industry as ‘hypomastia’. Society president Peter Callan said women might feel a “loss of self-esteem due to undeveloped breasts”. “There are a certain number of women with significant hypomastia who would benefit from breast augmentation from both a psychological and physical perspective,” News.com.au quoted him as saying. Breast implants for hypomastia were included under Medicare in the 1970s and 1980s, but the legislation was changed and the item number removed about 10 years ago.
Source-ANI

Social Networking Sites are Distracting Children and Affecting Academic Performance

What Most Americans Think About Marriage ?

(via Instapaper)

To Your Beauty!

Dr. Alexander Sinclair

Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery

Posted via email from beverlyhillsplasticsurgery’s posterous

Breast Augmentation By Fat Injection

Breast Augmentation Surgery

breast augmentation surgery

Breast Enlargement

Fat Grafting

Fat Injection

Can My Fat Be Injected Into My Breasts To Make Them Larger? Today fat grafting for cosmetic breast enlargement is controversial. It is not clear how long the fat survives. Doctors should be cautious about injecting fat in women with increased risks for breast cancer. The best advice is to see your plastic surgeon to get information about safe, reliable and long lasting techniques to give you the result you want.

Nipple Sensation In Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation Surgery

Breast Surgery

Breast Augmentation

Nipple Sensation

Recovery

Almost all of my patients are concerned with maintaining their nipple sensation and being able to fully resume all physical activity after their recovery from breast augmentation. A recent study, by Banbury in The Journal of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons should be reassuring. The study assessed 47 patients for pectoralis muscle function, [...]

Almost all of my patients are concerned with maintaining their nipple sensation and being able to fully resume all physical activity after their recovery from breast augmentation. A recent study, by Banbury in The Journal of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons should be reassuring. The study assessed 47 patients for pectoralis muscle function, breast sensation and body image before and after subpectoral breast augmentation.

The strength and movement of the pectoral muscle, which is the large muscle on the chest that flexes and rotates the shoulder, did not significantly change during the study period. There was no change in muscle flexion (bending), extension or raising the arms when preoperative muscle function was compared with the three-month and six-month evaluation periods. In addition, there was no significant difference in muscle function regardless of implant size.In assessing sensory changes of the breast, both pressure and vibratory testing were performed. Results from the study indicated a significant change in breast sensation at three months postoperatively but the sensation returned by six months, indicating that the change was temporary while the tissue surrounding the breast healed. There was no correlation stated with size of implant or surgical incision.

This is welcome news for all yoga practicing, treadmill running, tennis and golf players. Your performance in the gym shouldn’t suffer and you should be as sensitive as before.

Breast Feeding and Silicone Implants

Breast Augmentation Surgery

Breast Implant Surgery

Breast Augmentation

Breast Feeding

Breast Implants

Silicone Implants

Breast-feeding is known to possess nutritional and immunologic properties superior to those found in infant formulas. Breast-feeding seems to be particularly protective against some of the common childhood conditions such as eczema, otitis media, and iron-deficiency anemia, and is beneficial to neurodevelopment in premature infants. Also, there are substantial health benefits of breast-feeding for the mother and possibly for the whole family. Millions of silicone breast implants have been placed for either reconstructive or cosmetic surgeries. Many of the women with breast implants will become pregnant after their surgery. Women with silicone implants may be apprehensive and confused over whether it is safe to breast feed.

Mothers with breast implants may decide not to breast feed their infants because of the mothers silicone getting into their breast milk. A study by Dr. John Semple published in The Journal of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons should help them in their decision making. The research shows that when you compare women with breast implants to women who do not have breast implants there is no difference in silicon levels in the breast milk or in blood. Silicon levels in store bought cow’s milk was 15 times higher than in the milk of women with breast implants. Silicon levels in many commercially made infant nutrition formulas was often 80 times higher than the levels in the milk of women with breast implants!

Of course the choice is up to the woman, but this information that women with silicone breast implants have less silicon in their milk than in infant formulas coupled with the health, emotional and developmental benefits of breast feeding makes the choice easier.
